— A Wilson Street resident in Leetonia at 9:14 p.m. Friday reported issues with her neighbors.
— Deputies were dispatched at 5:04 p.m. Friday to the 100 block of Egypt Road in Salem Township for people trespassing. Kimberly Jackson, 37, old state Route 558, Salem, and Matthew Juillerat, 31, North Pleasant Drive, East Palestine, were each charged with criminal trespass and taken to the county jail.
— A resident of South Mahoning Avenue in Knox Township reported at 4:54 p.m. Friday that he is getting ricochets from the shooting range at Burtzland Outfitters.
— A residential alarm was reported at a residence on Homeworth Road at 10:31 a.m. Thursday, but everything appeared secure.
— Deputies were called at 1:53 a.m. Tuesday to a residential alarm activation on Fife Coal Road, Wellsville in Yellow Creek Township which targeted the sun porch with glass breakage. Deputies checked the sun porch, residence and two separate unattached buildings, finding all secure.
— Deputies responded to a report of a robbery in progress at Hull’s Super Duper on state Route 172 in the New Garden area where a male was demanding money be put in a bag at 7:40 a.m. Monday. Upon arrival, the male was taken into custody and appeared to be having some type of mental health crisis. He was transported to a hospital for evaluation and a referral to mental health. He had no weapons or a bag and no charges were filed, according to the chief deputy.
— A deputy at 10:59 p.m. Sunday returned a call to a woman in Wayne Township regarding a custody issue.
— A deputy responded to the Middleton Ace Hardware on Crestview Road, Columbiana, for an alarm activation at 12:46 a.m. Sunday in the lawn care area. The building was secure, but it appeared the grass was disturbed in the fenced-in lawn care area and the top of the fence was mashed down somewhat as if someone climbed over it. Nothing was observed out of place or disturbed in the area inside the fence.
— A resident on Church Street, Salineville reported at 5:37 a.m. Friday that he noticed his 2019 Chevy Sonic was sitting funny and upon checking, he found his front and rear driver’s side tires had been sliced. He said his son had seen a white truck sitting at the end of the driveway around midnight or after but never thought anything of it.
— Officers responded to the 16000 block of Irish Ridge Road at 12:59 p.m. Saturday where a juvenile reported his mother and father had been fighting. The parents were found in a verbal argument and they were separated. Nothing physical had occurred and they both agreed nothing further would happen. The mother then gave the father a ride home to Cleveland.
— A state Route 170 Y resident reported on station at 11:13 a.m. Saturday damage to his vehicle.
— A St. Clair Avenue business owner reported at 11:01 a.m. Saturday he loaned a vehicle to someone who returned it without the catalytic converter. The owner said the person denied any knowledge of the damage.
— Officers responded to a residence int the 200 block of Hawley Avenue at 3:54 a.m. Monday for a mentally disturbed person. The individual had called three times making statements that didn’t make sense, and claiming officers from the Columbiana County Drug Task Force were standing outside his window harassing him. Officers responded and made contact with the man about the phone calls, who advised he felt he was being harassed despite nobody being outside his window. He refused medical treatment and officers did not have enough criteria for an emergency admission to the hospital. He was advised only to contact the police department if he needed assistance.
— Officers responded to a business in the 1900 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 2:47 a.m. Monday to assist the Perry Township Police Department in checking an alarm drop. Officers cleared the building and did not locate any subjects before securing it.
— Officers responded to a residence on Vine Avenue at 1:06 a.m. Monday for reports of a vehicle revving its engine with loud exhaust. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.
— While on patrol in the 800 block of East State Street at 12:51 a.m. Monday an officer located a suspicious vehicle. Officers contacted the driver who stated they were just using the Wi-Fi from the business.
— Officers responded to a residence in the 2500 block of Lexington Avenue at 11:50 p.m. Sunday for a wellness check. The caller claimed his ex-wife had messaged him that she was going to commit suicide. Officers made contact with the woman, who denied having made any such statement. She confirmed there had been a recent break-up between the two, but said she was okay and did not wish to harm herself.
— While on patrol in the area of East Seventh Street and East School Street at 11:31 p.m. Sunday officers observed a blue Chevy Malibu with no plate light, and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. While officers were approaching the vehicle, they observed contraband in plain view on the passenger floor board. Officers asked the driver and the passenger to exit the vehicle and conducted a search of the vehicle securing the contraband. The passenger, Matthew Crowl, 43, was arrested for possessing drug abuse instruments due to prior convictions. The driver of the vehicle was given a verbal warning for plate light and released. Crowl was transported to the Salem Police Department for processing then transported to the Columbiana County Jail.
— While on patrol in the area of Waterworth Memorial Park and Sunset Boulevard at 10:50 p.m. Sunday officers observed a vehicle in the park after hours. Officers contacted the driver, confirming all was okay and advised them of park hours.
— While on patrol in the area of Centennial Park at 10:18 p.m. Sunday officers observed a vehicle in the park after hours. Officers contacted the driver, confirming all was okay and advised them of park hours.
— Officers took a report of theft from a motor vehicle that occurred sometime during the previous night at 9:59 p.m. Sunday. The caller advised that when he went to his vehicle in the morning and found his door slightly ajar, but did not realize until that evening the duffel bag containing his kickboxing equipment was missing from the vehicle. Officers advised that a series of vehicle break-ins had occurred and a report would be on file. No forced entry was observed and officers advised him to contact the department if anything else comes up missing.
— Officers responded to a residence in the 800 block of East Fifteenth Street at 9:41 p.m. Sunday for a vehicle break in. Officers spoke to the caller who said a book bag and a log of tobacco was stolen from his truck sometime in the night on Saturday. Officers collected all the information.
— Officers responded to a business in the 2800 block of East State Street at 7:47 p.m. Sunday to speak to a woman about a purse accidentally left in a shopping cart. While officers were checking video footage a woman located the purse and returned it to its’ owner.
— Officers responded to the 2400 block of East State Street at 6:46 p.m. Saturday for reports of a man in a vehicle slumped over the steering wheel. Officers made contact with the man who stated he was waiting in the parking lot for his girlfriend who was in the store. The man said everything was fine and refused medical assistance.
— While on patrol in the 2800 block of East State Street at 10:55 p.m. Monday officers conducted a traffic stop, during which contraband was located and, due to the small amount, was destroyed on scene. The driver was given warnings for traffic and contraband violations.
— While on patrol in the area of South Lincoln Avenue and East State Street at 10:36 p.m. Monday an officer stopped a vehicle for several traffic violations. The vehicle was checked for contraband finding none, and the driver was given a warning for the traffic violations.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of Ohio Avenue at 9:05 p.m. Monday for reports of an unresponsive person. When officers arrived, they found the individual to be responsive, and they were checked by the Salem Fire Department, and KLG, refusing medical treatment. After refusing treatment the individual was placed under arrest for an active warrant by a Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office Deputy, and they demanded to go to the hospital. Officers stood by with the deputy due to the caller trying to interfere on scene and showing up at the hospital.
— Officers responded to a residence in the 500 block of East Third Street for an unwanted subject. The caller was upset about a man sitting on the step of a multiple dwelling. The man had come to visit someone he did not realize had moved. While waiting for his ride the caller began to escalate the situation due to the man being there. The caller was advised no criminal activity had taken place and to leave the subject be.
— Officers responded to a residence in the 2300 block of East State Street at 7:05 p.m. Monday for an animal complaint. The caller stated a dog had been left in a vehicle. When officers arrived the windows of the vehicle were cracked and the dog was not in any distress. Contact was made with the owner and made aware of the complaint.
— Officers spoke to a woman at the Police Department at 5:31 p.m. Monday about a custody issue. The woman advised she and her ex had a shared parenting agreement and he had taken their child to East Liverpool for recreational soccer, while the agreement stipulated the child play sports in Salem and they wanted the incident to be documented.
— Officers responded to the 1400 block of Franklin Avenue at 5:13 p.m. Monday for a report of a suspicious vehicle. Officers located the vehicle, and dispatch was able to make contact with the owner and advise them to move it.
— Officers responded to the 900 block of South Lundy Avenue at 2:54 p.m. Monday for a report of debris in the roadway. When officers arrived, they located a significant amount of gravel in the road. Officers were able to contact a local business who advised they would attempt to get the roadway cleaned. Officers also responded to the 400 block of West Wilson and spoke with the person who had reportedly been hauling the gravel. The man was advised of the problem and stated he would be enroute back to the area to clean the roadway.
— Officers responded to a residence in the 900 block of Home County Road at 2:41 p.m. Monday for a barking dog complaint. Officers heard the dog barking several times and went to the home, causing the dog to bark more upon seeing them. Officers contacted the juveniles inside the residence and advised them of the complaint. The juvenile went out back and got the dog.
— Officers responded to the area of Centennial Park at 1:42 p.m. Monday for a wellness check on a man. Officers spoke to the man who said he was fine.
— Officers spoke by phone to an individual at 1:17 p.m. Monday about a neighbor problem. Officers advised the caller of their options.
— Officers responded to a residence in the 600 block of East Sixth Street at 12:34 p.m. Monday for a report of harassment. Officers spoke with the caller who stated they had been receiving unwanted calls from a person they knew. Officers advised them of the options for dealing with the situation.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 12:29 p.m. Monday to assist the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force with an arrest. Darrell Hughart of New Waterford was transported to the Columbiana County Jail on charges of soliciting prostitution and possession of criminal tools.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of Benton Road at 12:13 p.m. Monday to assist the Perry Township Police Department with a call. When officers arrived the Perry officer was already clearing the scene.
— Officers responded to the 1000 block of West State Street at 11:16 a.m. Monday for a wellness check on a woman. Officers found the woman in question in the 700 block of West State Street, and spoke to her. The woman advised they were fine.
— Officers responded to a residence in the 1400 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 10:19 a.m. Monday to speak with a woman about a walker found in her home. The woman advised it was suspicious because she didn’t know how the walker got into her house. The officers did not observe signs of forced entry or criminal activity while present. The woman was advised to dispose of the walker at her convenience.
— Officers responded to the Salem Golf Club at 2:45 a.m. Monday for an alarm drop. Officers checked the building’s exterior, finding an unsecured front door. Officers searched the building finding nobody inside, and secured the door.
— Officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of West 14th Street at 9:10 p.m. Sunday for a report of a neighbor squealing tires. Officers stayed in the area but heard no tires squealing.
— Officers responded to the parking lot of Dollar General at 8:39 p.m. for a child custody dispute. The caller claimed her girlfriend’s ex-husband was refusing to give up the child as outlined by the court agreement. Officers were aware from past incidents that the father only wishes to give back the child to the mother. The father was unable to be located and officers advised that the issue is a civil matter and must be taken back to the judge.
— Officers responded to South Lincoln Avenue near Southridge Drive at 5:32 p.m. Sunday for a motor vehicle accident. While traveling southbound on Lincoln Jennifer Phillis, 24, of Lisbon, struck the rear end of a vehicle driven by Jamie Rice, 45, of Salem. All occupants denied injuries and Phillis was cited for assured clear distance. Sinsley Towing removed Phillis’ vehicle from the scene.
— Officers responded to the intersection of state Route 344 and Cunningham Road at 1:05 p.m. Sunday for a two-vehicle accident. Officers found a vehicle driven by Elijah Harrel, 64, of Pleasaton, Texas, stopped at the stop sign on Cunningham Road and attempted to pull onto state Route 344 and struck a vehicle driven by Timothy Miller, 30, of Salem, who was traveling westbound. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage and were driven from the scene, with no injuries reported. Harrel was cited for failure to yield from a stop sign.
— Officers responded to the 1600 block of Goshen Road at 11:18 p.m. Saturday for a single vehicle accident with no injuries. Officers spoke with John Yoho, 25, and Tyler Yoho, 28. John advised that he had driven off the roadway into a ditch. Further investigation revealed John to be intoxicated, and following a field sobriety test he was taken into custody for operating a vehicle while impaired, and transported to the Salem Police Department for processing. Once all the necessary paperwork was complete John was released to his uncle. Kaiser Towing responded and removed the vehicle.
— While on patrol in West State Street at 10:28 p.m. Saturday officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for marked lanes. During the stop officers located alcoholic beverages inside the vehicle which was driven by an eighteen-year-old male. Officers conducted a standard field sobriety test on the driver and found no impairment. Officers confiscated the alcohol and disposed of it appropriately.
— Officers responded to the area of Chestnut Grove near the rear of Grandview Cemetery at 3:12 p.m. Saturday to assist the Salem Police Department in locating a male suspect. Officers assisted until the man was taken into custody.
— Officers responded to a residence in the 1100 block of Prospect Street at 2:53 p.m. Saturday for a juvenile complaint. Officers spoke with the caller who advised a juvenile had broken the screen to a window. Officers spoke to the juvenile’s parent and advised her of the complaint, and they agreed to pay for the damages.
— Officers spoke with a Georgetown Road woman by phone at 9:53 a.m. Saturday in reference to an unknown person opening a bank account with Capital One with her information. The caller advised that the card was already canceled and no money was missing from any accounts. Officers advised her to contact their banking companies and speak with them about what happened to ensure nothing else was opened.
— Officers responded to a residence in the 1800 block of Allen Drive at 11:13 p.m. Friday for a report of possible prowlers in the area. Officers checked the area along with surrounding streets, not making contact with anyone.
— Officers responded to a report of an unknown fluid in the roadway on the state Route 45 bypass at West State Street at 8:25 a.m. Friday. Officers arrived and found by the smell the unknown fluid was more than likely from a septic truck.
— Officers responded to the 1700 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 7:16 a.m. Friday for a report of a small child found crossing the roadway. Officers spoke with the caller who advised they observed a small child cross the road wearing underwear and sandals. The caller stopped and held the child until someone could arrive. Officers found that the child came from a residence nearby, and contacted the mother, who stated they had grabbed a chair and climbed the gate while she was sleeping. Officers advised the mother that she needed to secure the doors to the residence better so they could not leave the residence.
— A Back Bay Drive resident reported a computer scam at 1:08 p.m. Aug. 5.
— Julie Underwood, 45, East Liverpool, was charged with possession drug abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia, as well as cited for running a red light, following a traffic stop at state routes 14 and 7 at 10:32 p.m. Aug. 4.
— Officers responded to a domestic dispute in the 200 block of Spruce Street at 9:05 p.m. Aug. 4. Everyone involved were separated.
— Police conducted a traffic stop at West Salem and North Pearl streets at 8:08 p.m. Aug. 4 during which a K-9 officer indicated the presence of a narcotic odor in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed suspected narcotics. No arrests were made but charges are pending BCI lab results.
— Officers responded to the 1200 block of Fairfield Avenue at 4:21 a.m. Aug. 4 in reference to a mental health crisis in which the person involved voluntarily sought medical attention.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of South Main Street at 6:28 p.m. Aug. 3 in reference to a domestic dispute and found that it was a verbal altercation only. Both people involved were told to remain separated for the time being.
— Nicholas Reed, no age listed, Leetonia, was cited for driving under suspension and expired registration following a traffic stop on West Park Avenue at 6:23 p.m. Aug. 2.
— A man was given a warning for public intoxication in the 100 block of South Main Street at 2:29 p.m. Aug. 2 and provided a courtesy ride to his home.
— Officers responded to a Beechwood Drive home at 10:36 a.m. Aug. 1 to check on the welfare of the resident and found him deceased. EMS was requested and no foul play is suspected.
Yerman Berdaly, 29, Los Angeles, Calif., was cited with operating a vehicle without reasonable control after allegedly driving his truck off the right side of state Route 172 and striking a guardrail at 8:06 p.m. Friday. Berdaly claimed that he saw a small animal in the road and swerved, although a witness driving in the opposite direction claimed they saw no animals in the roadway. Berdaly sustained no injuries and his vehicle sustained disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene.
Claudette D. Miller, 56, New Cumberland, W. Va., was cited with divided roadways and a seatbelt violation after allegedly driving in the wrong lane on U.S. Route 30 and forcing a vehicle driven by John P. Ewing, 44, Cusick Road, Lisbon, off of the road at 4:27 p.m. Aug. 1. When troopers arrived, they stated that Miller seemed to be in mental distress, and had her transported to East Liverpool Hospital for a physical and mental evaluation. Ewing suffered a possible injury, and Miller suffered suspected minor injuries. Both vehicles sustained disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene.
A Salem resident was transported to Salem Hospital at 3:43 p.m. August 2 after an unknown vehicle allegedly passed her, forcing her vehicle off of the right side of the road and causing her to strike two mailboxes, two street signs, and a utility pole. She sustained suspected minor injuries, and her vehicle sustained disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene.
Charges are pending for an East Palestine resident after he allegedly drove through a red light and struck a semi-truck driving through a green light. The semi-truck driver stated that his dashboard camera documented the incident, which showed the resident driving directly through the red light and striking the truck. Both vehicles sustained disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene, and the resident suffered a suspected minor injury. The truck driver sustained no injuries.
Dana M. Swartz, 26, Canfield, was cited with operating a vehicle without reasonable control, failure to control, and suspended no license after allegedly driving off the right side of Clarkson Road, striking a ditch and utility pole before overturning at 9:30 p.m. August 1. He suffered no injuries, but his vehicle sustained disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene.
An East Liverpool teen was transported to UPMC Children’s Hospital with suspected serious injuries after allegedly overturning his motorcycle and going left of center, causing him to be struck by another vehicle traveling the opposite direction and striking a fixed pole after that at 3:07 p.m. He was transported via STAT MedEvac and was hospitalized for his injuries. His motorcycle sustained disabling damage and had to be towed. The other driver and passenger sustained no injuries, but their vehicle sustained functional damage and was driven from the scene.
Brookelynn A. Frantz, 26, Kensington, was cited with lanes of travel, left of center and no seatbelt after allegedly driving left of center on state Route 39 and striking another vehicle at 2:24 a.m. July 29. When troopers arrived, they observed Frantz to be in pain from suspected minor injuries and upset. When asked what happened, she stated that she had blacked out, and had been blacking out lately and her mother told her not to drive. She was transported to East Liverpool Hospital for her injuries as was the other driver, Rebecca S. Dyke, 32, West Fourth Street, East Liverpool. Both vehicles sustained disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene.
